This beautiful adults-only country retreat within a 500 year old manor house, boasts ancient timber beams, large Inglenook fireplaces and real wood-burning stoves. The guest rooms are in the oldest part of Clay Hall House, which was built around 1520. The king room has a spacious en-suite bathroom, and the double room has a small private shower room immediately outside the bedroom. Guests can relax in the sitting room with a wood burning stove. A light and airy conservatory is also available from April to October. Freshly prepared breakfasts are cooked on a traditional Aga stove, made with locally sourced ingredients and eggs from the properties own free range hens. The kitchen has been awarded a 5 Star hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency. Clay Hall House is nestled in the beautiful Stour Valley, inspiration behind the works of the famous artists Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable. There are many cycling, walking and car touring routes in the local area. The historic Suffolk villages Lavenham and Long Melford, and the pretty riverside town of Sudbury are within 3 miles. Sudbury Train Station is an 11-minute drive away and Stansted Airport is 40 minutes?drive away and Cambridge can be reached in 1 hour. This property will not accommodate hen, stag or similar parties. Please note that check in is strictly between 17.00 and 20.00 and guests must state an actual arrival time within this period when booking. Guests must only park where indicated
